According to the APA Publication manual, which cites the DSM-IV-TR on page 255, it should be cited as follows:
American Psychiatric Association. (2000). Diagnositc and statistical manual of mental disorders (4th ed., text rev.). Washington, DC: Author.
(The book title only would be in italics.)

John!

That citation in the 2nd page of the DSM is in AMA format because Psychiatry is actually a medical field more so then a Psychological field. Hope that clears up things!

Just FYI, you will have to update this for the 6th version because the APA idiots decided they want the DOI # included now.

shouldn't your citation be "120-21"?

not "120-121"

Well, I have a possible issue with the above citation form. If you look in the DSM-IV-TR on the 2nd page from the front (containing all the copyright, library of congress, publication, etc. information), it shows the following text:

"The coreect citation for this book is American Psychiatric Association: Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision. Washington, DC, American Psychiatric Association, 2000."

At least, that is how the DSM-IV-TR says to cite itself. However, this is probably pre-5th/6th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, as the 5th edition says to cite as per above article.

I appreciate the clarification on the use of bulleted lists vs. numbered lists in APA writing. I knew that bulleted lists were to be avoided but I was uncertain about numbered lists. This was very helpful.

Thank you,
Grad student from GWU
